Gwyneth Jones will be joining us on Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss this year's OBNJ teen book selection.  We hope that many of you and your teens will also be able to join us with your questions and insights about this adventurous novel.

Please consider posting this link onto your website, blog, or myspace page.  (You can also access this link from the calendar on the OBNJ website: http://www.onebooknj.org/calendar/.)

I encourage all libraries to display information about this program around your libraries, in your schools and communities, and on your websites.  Please remind your teens from now until April 3rd (and then again until the 17th!) about this exciting opportunity to talk directly with the author - for free and from the comfort of their own homes or libraries!  Consider reserving a few computers within your building for this online discussion.  If you're planning on participating in the discussion, but some of your teens can't make it, have them email their questions and/or comments to you or to me (at kate_thelibrarian@yahoo.com)!!

Looking forward to chatting with you in April!

Obnjlogo Just a few things to keep you up-to-date for OBNJ 2008...

Most public libraries should have already received the OBNJ posters.  If you have not received yours by next week, please first check your building (libraries were only sent one poster per building) or your library system headquarters (posters for branch libraries were sent to your main building).  We do have a number of extra posters.  If you would like a second poster for your building, please email me.  Also, posters were only sent to all of the public libraries in the state - if you are a school library, or know of a school library, who would like to display a poster, please let me know.  Please also let me know where the poster can be delivered (preferably with your CD&L number).

Launch Week is quickly approaching!  Make sure to get your programs up on the website calendar (www.onebooknj.org) as soon as they are planned.  All libraries with programs scheduled during Launch Week, February 10-16, 2008, are automatically entered into a random drawing to win a free set of this year's OBNJ selections.  Also, if you place an order with Cafe Press (www.cafepress.com/onebooknj) this week, your products should arrive mid-February.  Check out some of the cool products with images of the OBNJ logo or this year's poster image!  Use these products are give-aways and prizes during Launch Week.  A OBNJ t-shirt can work as a great promotion year-round!

Mount Laurel's "Funday Sunday"

(Posted to SJRLC listserv, 10/16)
-----------------------------------------------------

Our Funday Sunday customer appreciation day at the Mount Laurel Library was a great success.  Why am I telling you this? Because I think the DJs, Hy Lit and Sam Lit, who supplied the music outside on the lawn definitely added to the excitement.
We had over 1,100 poeple attend.

If you're planning an event and need a DJ, give them a call.  They will do what's needed to make it a success. The folks at HyLit.com are a delight to work with and are true professionals. Although Hy Lit is associated with oldies (1950s and 60s music), he and his associates are ready to supply you with any music you want. They gave us a great, upbeat mix and it kept the party going the whole afternoon. Sam even offered to announce our activities throughout the day...and he takes requests!
So, if you're planning something, consider booking them. I guarantee you won't regret it.
Cheers -
Joan Bernstein
P.S. This is an unpaid announcement.

Please join The New Jersey Library Association, New Jersey State Library and Monmouth County Library for a special presentation by two nationally known authors, Beth Gutcheon (Leeway Cottage) and Jamie Saul (Light of Day),  to celebrate National Reading Group Month which is sponsored by the Women's National Book Association each October.    Joining the authors will be Barbara  Mead, publisher of Reading Group Choices.

The event will take place October 30 at 7 p.m at at the Monmouth County Library, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan.
The cost is $10. A book signing will   follow the presentation.

To register email April Judge at judge@bccls.org.

"Librarians have the chance to get involved in celebrating this special month listening to two featured authors.  We hope that this event will generate enthusiasm for National Reading Group Month so that they can plan and present special programs next October.

Many libraries already get the periodical Reading Group Choices, published by Barbara Mead. It is a wonderful resource for libraries looking for book selections for their reading groups because it includes titles just for adults and also adult books that can be used for teen reading groups too. There are discussion questions included for each title. If your library does not have it, this program would be the perfect opportunity to find out more about it.
