New 20% Discount offer: Playaway Audiobooks

New 20% Discount offer: Playaway Audiobooks

Not an MP3 or CD player and not software, Playaway is the self-contained audio equivalent of a book.  Half the size of a deck of cards, Playaway is packaged with earphones and a standard AAA battery to allow for immediate listening.

Using clearly marked buttons, Playaway gives listeners the option of placing digital bookmarks and controlling the speed of a narrator’s voice, all while easily moving both forward and back through audio book selections that can range from six to twenty-four hours.

OCLC Report: Sharing, Privacy and Trust in Our Networked World

The next in OCLC's great series of Membership Reports is now available for download from: http://www.oclc.org/reports/sharing/.  If it's half as good as their previous reports, it will give us all a lot to think about and discuss!

From OCLC's site:

Sharing, Privacy and Trust in Our Networked World

Sharing, Privacy and Trust in Our Networked World

Now available! This OCLC membership report summarizes the findings of an international study on online social spaces, including social networking attitudes and habits of both end users and librarians. This international study on social networking, privacy and trust opinions surveyed the general public in six countries—Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States—and library directors from the U.S.

Social networking was also discussed at the OCLC Symposium “Who’s Watching YOUR Space?” at ALA Midwinter 2007, while property law and privacy rights were discussed at the OCLC Symposium: “Is the Library Open?” at ALA Annual 2007.

Mount Laurel's "Funday Sunday"

(Posted to SJRLC listserv, 10/16)
-----------------------------------------------------

Our Funday Sunday customer appreciation day at the Mount Laurel Library was a great success.  Why am I telling you this? Because I think the DJs, Hy Lit and Sam Lit, who supplied the music outside on the lawn definitely added to the excitement.
We had over 1,100 poeple attend.

If you're planning an event and need a DJ, give them a call.  They will do what's needed to make it a success. The folks at HyLit.com are a delight to work with and are true professionals. Although Hy Lit is associated with oldies (1950s and 60s music), he and his associates are ready to supply you with any music you want. They gave us a great, upbeat mix and it kept the party going the whole afternoon. Sam even offered to announce our activities throughout the day...and he takes requests!
So, if you're planning something, consider booking them. I guarantee you won't regret it.
Cheers -
Joan Bernstein
P.S. This is an unpaid announcement.
