Please join The New Jersey Library Association, New Jersey State Library and Monmouth County Library for a special presentation by two nationally known authors, Beth Gutcheon (Leeway Cottage) and Jamie Saul (Light of Day),  to celebrate National Reading Group Month which is sponsored by the Women's National Book Association each October.    Joining the authors will be Barbara  Mead, publisher of Reading Group Choices.

The event will take place October 30 at 7 p.m at at the Monmouth County Library, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan.
The cost is $10. A book signing will   follow the presentation.

To register email April Judge at judge@bccls.org.

"Librarians have the chance to get involved in celebrating this special month listening to two featured authors.  We hope that this event will generate enthusiasm for National Reading Group Month so that they can plan and present special programs next October.

Many libraries already get the periodical Reading Group Choices, published by Barbara Mead. It is a wonderful resource for libraries looking for book selections for their reading groups because it includes titles just for adults and also adult books that can be used for teen reading groups too. There are discussion questions included for each title. If your library does not have it, this program would be the perfect opportunity to find out more about it.

For more information on this program go to: http://www.njstatelib.org/News/news_item.php?item_id=807

Videoconferencing Grant

Grant news from the State Library:

The New Jersey State Library is pleased to announce the availability of a Videoconferencing Grant Request for Proposals. The RFP may be accessed from our grants page: http://www.njstatelib.org/LDB/Grants/grntrfps.php.

As stated in the preface to the RFP, the goal of the New Jersey State Library (NJSL) is to create a new level of access to communications for all public libraries in the New Jersey Library Network by implementing a videoconferencing network.

Through the strategic placement of four new videoconferencing centers in public libraries and a fifth one at the New Jersey State Library, the State Library intends to provide convenient access to meetings, training, educational and library programs.

These grants are designed to serve the librarians and their customers at the community level by making available easy access to meetings and programs available through this technology.  The New Jersey State Library seeks to identify libraries that will commit to use the videoconferencing equipment for library, library association and community meetings and programs as needed.

These grants will provide the equipment needed to host a videoconferencing center, the installation of the equipment and the training for use of the equipment.  Each recipient of a NJSL Videoconferencing Grant will be required to act as a resource to assist other New Jersey librarians to communicate through this network, as well as to provide the staffing to operate the equipment and make it available to libraries and library groups from around the state.

Cumberland County Library in the News

Cumberland Nancy Forester, Director of the Cumberland County Library, gave a great interview to the Atlantic City Press.  Great article (and nice picture!)

Quechup Spam/Scam Alert!

SPAM/SCAM ALERT!

If you get any invites joint Quechup, delete them immediately.

If you haven't already heard ( see

here,

here,

here, or just

google quechup) Quechup is, well, rotten.

Although apparently a legit social networking site, if you join they prompt you with one of those, "hey, want to know which of your friends are already on Quechup?" pitches, and ask for your permission to search your online address book (if you have one.)  That's where it all goes south...

Quechup then searches your address book and SENDS AN INVITE IN YOUR NAME TO EVERY EMAIL IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK.  Ugh!

So if you see any Quechup invites in your inbox, just move that index finger over to the delete key.
